  1. That is an impressive list. Some of the assignments sound strange to me, though. What does a "landscape designer" do or a "nurturer"? Why do they need these strange job assignments? I can now perfectly understand Jonas' fear of being given the wrong assignment..

  2. :)
I think that a ladscape designer should trim the gras, rinse the flowers and cut the trees and bushes down maybe their task is a different one but thats my perception of doing landscape design.
A Nurturer is one of the first assignments we get to handle with in " The Giver". Jonas' father is a Nurturer :they nurture the newchildren up to the point where they get assigned to their family unit.As a similar word to 'to nurture' you can use 'to raise'.It's just that they do not only educate the newchildren they also feed them and care for them because they're biological mother ("Birthmother") never saw them and can't care for them or raise them up because they're just there for giving birth to them.In my opinion the community just wants each individual 'unit of life' to be equal to the other memners of the comunity:they don't want anybody to be nurtured in another way(that would happen when each mother could raise her child according to her own notion).

If there are any errors in this little comment catch them and never release them ^^

  3. and of course I could understand Jonas' fear of being given the wrong assignment because the whole system presses on the shoulders of each member. That's what the community is absed on :TRUST.If one pillar breaks away it's a hazard for their belief of a settled society. If it is in the future ,and I'm sure it is, it could be based on a critical moment in the past where the gone society system failed.
